ASEAN PGA stars head for OneAsia

Seoul, May 12: A quintet of ASEAN PGA Tour players, including 2013 number one Kwanchai Tannin of Thailand, will tee it up at this week’s US$1 million SK Telecom Open on OneAsia – a reward for their consistency last season.

Kwanchai and fellow Thais Namchok Tantipokhakul, Wisut Artjanawat, Ratchapol Jantavara and Sattaya Supupramai, first, second, third, fourth and sixth respectively on the 2013 ASEAN PGA Tour Order of Merit, will compete at SKY 72 Ocean Course, Incheon, from Thursday.

Thanyakon Khrongpha, who ended fifth on the Order of Merit, is also in the field after finishing in the top-50 of the 2013 OneAsia rankings.

They will be joined by Thai greats Thaworn Wiratchant, a former Asian Tour number one, and Prom Meesawat, who have both won on the ASEAN PGA Tour. They have been handed starts in the OneAsia tournament as they are within the top 250 in the world rankings.

Prom is currently ninth on OneAsia’s Order of Merit with earnings of US$40,187 from two events while Thaworn is in 31st place having played just once.

Kwanchai, a two-time winner last season, played OneAsia’s season-opening Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, on the back of his stellar 2013 campaign.

He has made a fast start to 2014, his runner up finish behind veteran Thai Prayad Marksaeng in the Singha Pattaya Open seeing him jump to second spot in the standings behind countryman Gunn Charoenkul, who won the season-opening Singha Esan Open.
