Awards Galore for Fung

Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, January 12: Nicholas Fung stole the show at the ASEAN PGA Tour Gala Awards Night held at Sutera Harbour’s plush Marina.

The young Malaysian took to the stage to receive trophies for winning the ASEAN PGA Order of Merit title and he was also voted the Players’ Player of the Year.

A joint eight finish in the season-ending Sabah Masters, earlier in the day, was enough to allow Fung to top the money list.

The rising star from Kota Kinabalu finished the season with winnings of US$31,884.

He won the Palembang Musi Championship in Indonesia and lost in a play-off at the Singha Esan Open in Thailand.

Fung also claimed the Best Stroke Average with a score of 68.67 from 12 rounds.

His fine year also meant he was one of the top five players from the money list to secure places on OneAsia. The others were Gunn Charoenkul and Annop Tangkamolprasert from Thailand, Filipino Jay Bayron and Singapore’s Choo Tze Huang.

Annop also earned the Most Inspired Performance of the Year Award after recording his breakthrough win as a professional in the Gowa Classic in Indonesia. Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club was voted Venue of the Year by the players. Howie Roberts, General Manager, Sutera Harbour Marina, Golf & Country Club accepted the award for the impressive venue.

Thailand’s Piya Swangarunporn topped the Most Birdie category with 81 birdies through 24 rounds.
