Aunzo strolls to victory

Jakarta, December 3: Ferdie Aunzo completed a brave wire-to-wire victory in the Ancora Classic presented by PGN today to move a step closer to fulfilling his potential in the professional game.

The Filipino fired a three-under-par 69 at Emeralda Golf and Country Club to win the ASEAN PGA Tour’s season-ending event by five strokes.

Malaysian Nicholas Fung took second place for the third tournament on the trot after carding a 68.

Thailand’s Panuwat Muenlek also shot 68 to finish a stroke further back in third place.

Ferdie edges closer to victory

Jakarta, December 2: Filipino Ferdie Aunzo opened up a commanding five stroke lead after the third round of the Ancora Classic presented by PGN today.

In the season-ending event on the ASEAN PGA Tour the 32 year old, who has led after each round, shot a one-under-par 71 for an impressive 11 under par tournament total.

Thailand’s Gunn Charoenkul and Pravee Visalkit and Malaysian Khor Kheng Hwai lie in second place. Gunn fired a 68 at Emeralda Golf and Country Club while Pravee and Khor both returned 72.

Aunzo leads at halfway mark

Jakarta, December 1: Ferdie Aunzo from the Philippines continued to set the pace in the Ancora Classic presented by PGN after opening up a four stroke lead at the halfway mark.

The first round leader shot a four-under-par 68 at Emeralda Golf and Country Club in the season-ending event on the ASEAN PGA Tour.

Malaysian Khor Kheng Hwai is in second place after shooting a 71 along with Pravee Visalkit from Thailand who returned a 70.

A stroke further back is Singaporean Choo Tze Huang, making his professional debut, Thailand’s Pawin Ingkhapradit and Soewarno from Indonesia.

Aunzo Bounces Back

Jakarta, November 30: Highly rated Ferdie Aunzo bounced back from a disappointing performance on home soil last week to take the first round lead in the Ancora Classic presented by PGN today.

The Filipino fired a six-under-par 66 at Emeralda Golf and Country Club to lead by a shot from Malaysia’s Khor Kheng Hwai.

Indonesian amateur George Gandranata, fresh from success in the SEA Games, and Thailand’s Varut Chomchalam and Pravee Visalkit finished a stroke further behind.

Wisut eyes hat-trick

Jakarta, November 29: Thailand’s Wisut Artjanawat will attempt to make it three wins in a row on the ASEAN PGA Tour this week in the Ancora Classic presented by PGN.

Having already secured the Order of Merit title he can afford to cut loose and set more ASEAN PGA records in the season-ending event.

The tournament tees off tomorrow at Emeralda Golf and Country Club featuring a mouthwatering line up including Malaysia’s Nicholas Fung, Atthaphon

Wisut sets new benchmark in Sabah

November 6, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia: Thailand’s Wisut Artjanawat claimed the US$60,000 Sabah Masters today to become the first player to win four times on the ASEAN PGA Tour and also the first to claim back-to-back titles.

Wisut recorded a one stroke victory over Filipino Anthony Fernando and Malaysia’s Nicholas Fung at Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club.

The victory follows on from his success in last month’s Palembang Musi Championship in Indonesia.

The 30-year-old fired a brilliant final round four-under-par 66 for a four-day total of two-under 278.

Fernando pulls ahead in Sabah

November 5, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia: Former Philippine amateur star Anthony Fernando took the third round lead in the US$60,000 Sabah Masters today showing that he is starting to find his feet in the professional game.

The Filipino carded a one-over-par 71 for a one shot lead over Malaysians Nicholas Fung and S. Sivachandran, who both fired 72.

Jay Bayron from the Philippines, the leader after the first and second rounds, came in with a 75 and is a stroke further behind at Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club.

Bayron maintains leads in Sabah

November 4, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia: Filipino Jay Bayron holds the halfway lead in the Sabah Masters to once again put himself into position to win his maiden title on the ASEAN PGA Tour.

The 32-year-old from Davao fired a one-over-par 71 over Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club’s demanding championship course to lead by two strokes from compatriot Anthony Fernando and Malaysia’s Nicholas Fung and S. Sivachandran.

Fung, Sabah’s rising young star, and Sivachandran both carded 68s while Fernando returned a 70 which included a costly double bogey on the 18th.

Wisut Artjanawat is two strokes further back. The Thai golfer, who won last month’s Palembang Musi Championship, fired a 68.

Bayron claims first round honours

November 3, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia: Jay Bayron got the better of a tough back nine while others faltered to take the first round lead in the US$60,000 Sabah Masters today with a five-under-par 65.

Bayron, who boasts a string of high finishes on the ASEAN PGA Tour this year, leads by three shots from compatriot Anthony Fernando and Thailand’s Tanatchan Puaktes.

Marlon Dizon from the Philippines is a stroke further back at Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club.

The pre-tournament favourites are all in the hunt with Malaysian Nicholas Fung, who hails from Sabah, and his countrymen S. Sivachandran and Airil Rizman carding 70s. Indonesia’s top golfer Rory Hie shot 71.

All eyes on local hero Fung

November 2, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia: Sabah sensation Nicholas Fung competes on the ASEAN PGA Tour this week with a skip in his stride as he is playing on his home patch at the Sabah Masters.

At the age of 12 he started playing golf in Sabah and now nine years later he starts as one of the hot favourites to claim the title at Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club.

The US$60,000 tournament tees off tomorrow and is making a return to the golf calendar having not been played since 1999.

Fung, who turned professional last year, has quickly emerged as one of Malaysia’s top golfers and headlines a strong field that includes his compatriots Airl Rizman, S. Sivachandran, Rashid Ismail, and Khor Kheng Hwai.
